3D Printer Setup & Maintenance These videos provide practical guidance for preparing, operating, troubleshooting, and caring for 3D printers, with a current focus on Bambu Lab and Ultimaker systems. These videos help students and educators build confidence with routine setup, calibration, filament handling, cleaning, and preventative maintenance to keep equipment running safely and reliably.
3D Printer Setup & Maintenance
Alaska STEAM Hub | Bambu Lab Maintenance This video covers essential maintenance steps for keeping your Bambu 3D printer running smoothly. It includes cleaning the extruder with compressed air or a vacuum, cleaning the fans monthly, and checking and cleaning the rods and belt tension with isopropyl alcohol. Every three months, users should clean and lubricate the Z lead screws using Bambu grease while the printer is powered on. Monthly tasks also include cleaning the internal camera lens and checking the nozzle wiper for wear. The filament cutter should be checked and replaced every 3–5 rolls of filament or after thousands of cuts. The video walks through the tools needed—like alcohol, wipes, allen wrenches, and grease—and concludes with reassembling the printer and reconnecting the AMS unit.
Alaska STEAM Hub | Bambu Lab Filament Change S 🧬 T 🛰️ E ⚙️ A 🎨 M 📊
Welcome to our Alaska STEAM Hub (ASH) Bambu Lab Video Series! Through the ASH Program at the Benteh STEAM Academy, we empower students in rural villages across Alaska to turn ideas into reality with Bambu Lab.
In this tutorial, Isabelle explains how to change the filament on a Bambu 3D printer. First, navigate to the filament menu by pressing the printer icon below the home icon, then scroll to “feeding” and select “unload” to reverse the filament back into the spool. Once it stops, remove it from the AMS. To load new filament, press “load,” insert the filament into the AMS with it coming from the top of the spool, and push it into the PTFE tube by pressing the grey tab until it starts pulling. After the nozzle heats up, the printer is ready. Don’t forget to save empty spools for future refills. Thanks for watching, and keep creating!

Welcome to our Alaska STEAM Hub (ASH) Ultimaker Video Series! Through the ASH Program at the Benteh STEAM Academy, we empower students in rural villages across Alaska to turn ideas into reality with Ultimaker.
Today, Isabelle introduces us to infill patterns for Ultimaker 3D printers using the Ultimaker Cura software. She explains how infill density affects print strength, material usage, and print time, demonstrating the differences through sample prints. Infill patterns are categorized into three groups: visual models, standard prints, and functional tools, each with specific strengths and applications. Patterns like lines, zig-zag, and lightning are ideal for fragile models, while grid, triangles, and tri-hexagons offer increased durability. For functional prints requiring strength, cubic, gyroid, and octet patterns provide superior support. Finally, flexible patterns like concentric and cross 3D allow for movement when paired with flexible filaments. Understanding these patterns helps optimize 3D prints for strength, flexibility, and efficiency. Thanks for watching—don’t forget to like and subscribe, and as always, Keep Creating!

Welcome to our Alaska STEAM Hub (ASH) Video Series! Through the ASH Program at the Benteh STEAM Academy, we empower students in rural villages across Alaska to turn ideas into reality with STEAM.
In this tutorial from the Benteh STEAM Academy, Isabelle demonstrates how to properly clean a Glowforge to ensure it runs smoothly, recommending cleaning every 40 hours of printing. Key supplies include Q-tips, lens wipes, and paper towels, and the Glowforge must always be turned off during cleaning. The process starts with cleaning the crumb tray by removing debris, emptying it into a trash can, and carefully wiping the floor, paying attention to the dimples for stability. Next, the print head, cameras, laser lens, and mirrors are cleaned using lens wipes and a lens tool, avoiding direct contact with the lens or mirror surfaces. Specific components like the camera lens inside the lid and the mirror inside the print head, which requires cleaning after 120 hours, are also addressed. Isabelle concludes with tips to ensure proper reassembly.

Alaska STEAM Hub | Glowforge Series: Episode 3. Connecting Glowforge to WIFI & Printing Welcome to our Alaska STEAM Hub (ASH) Glowforge Series! Through the ASH Program at the Benteh STEAM Academy, we empower students in rural villages across Alaska to turn ideas into reality with Glowforge.
In this video, Isabelle shows you how to connect your Glowforge to WIFI and how to start your first print.
To connect your Glowforge to Wi-Fi and start printing, first, power it on and visit setup.glowforge.com on a device to begin setup. Select the Glowforge Plus model, connect to its temporary Wi-Fi network, and switch to your school’s Wi-Fi when prompted, entering the password as needed. Ensure the device used for setup is on the same network as the Glowforge. Once connected, sign in to the Glowforge website, select “create a new design,” and choose from blank, file upload (SVG, PDF, JPG, or PNG), or trace options. After selecting the material type, adjust settings for engraving, cutting, scoring, or ignoring elements, and use the Glowforge’s features to customize your project. When ready, press “print,” wait for the Glowforge’s blinking button, and press it to start. After cutting or engraving, wait for the system to clear smoke before opening the lid.
