The Benteh STEAM learning approach
At the Benteh STEAM Academy, our philosophy bridges the gap between traditional scientific methods and indigenous ways of knowing. Rooted in the Engineering Design Process and guided by Knik Tribal Values, we emphasize critical thinking, creativity, and sustainability. Our approach integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics through hands-on, collaborative learning experiences that encourage students to “fail forward,” explore connections, and discover innovative solutions for the challenges facing their communities and the world.
Campus Programs
The Benteh STEAM Academy offers five dynamic programs designed to spark curiosity and innovation: Kununi (Subsistence, Culture, and Indigenous Science), Horizons (Aviation Technology, Robotics, and Design), Talgunda (Computer Technology), Building for the Future (Construction Technology and Design), and ASH (Alaska STEAM Hub, supporting remote communities in developing their own Fab Labs). Achieving Academic Success
The Benteh STEAM Academy partners with Knik Charter School, sharing a campus to provide students with exceptional educational opportunities. Through this collaboration, students can earn high school credit recognized by the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District. We offer three pathways to support academic growth: Courses for Credit, structured classes designed to align with district standards; Camps, immersive programs with the potential to accumulate credit; and Clubs, enrichment activities that build skills and provide hands-on experience. This flexible approach ensures students can explore their passions while achieving academic success.
